Shared Living

Supported independent living services

At Bloom Care Support Services, we help our participants find a Supported Independent Living home to call their own, with 24/7 in-home support, funded by NDIS. Whether they are looking to live independently or in a shared arrangement, our SIL arrangements will tailor a suitable solution for them.

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Supported Independent Living is sometimes called shared accommodation.

Supported Independent Living (SIL), under the NDIS, is where a person with a disability lives with other people. The person is also entitled to receive support with everyday tasks including cleaning, cooking and personal care.

We, at Bloom Care, offer SILservices which supports people with a disability to live a holistic, healthy and connected life in an accommodation that best meets their needs. Our dedicated SIL employees provide assistance for daily living tasks from personal care and focus on developing skills so one can live as independently as possible. We use evidence-based research and a focused approach that supports participants, helping them achieve their goals and living a life filled with dignity and respect.

Our SIL services can be delivered to people in a variety of housing models, including:

  • Housing sourced through the Department of Housing or other social housing entities.
  • Private rentals.
  • Privately owned houses.
  • Shared or group accommodation.
  • Specialist Disability Accommodation Residences Sourced/Owned by Bloom Care Support Services.
  • Tailored SIL services to meet the support needs identified in an individual’s NDIS Plan.

Our services

Primarily, we provide our participants with a comfortable and secure home. We also support them with day-to-day tasks like:

  • Cleaning and laundry
  • Nutrition and cooking
  • Personal care such as showering and dressing
  • Going to appointments
  • Taking medication
  • Taking up a hobby
  • Learning to catch public transport.

Involving participants in household decision making

All our participants are part of the household routines and decisions.

This is done in different ways, depending on what each household prefers. For example, in some houses, the housemates have a weekly meeting (with the Bloom Care staff) to make decisions about their home.

Our properties

We have a wide range of shared properties including apartments, villas and houses. Apart from these, if a participant has a special need and makes a request, we undertake necessary research to find the most suitable option for the participant.

Handpicked house mates

We know it’s important that people click and get along.

Once a participant tells us what he/she likes and does not like in a housemate, we do our best to match our participants with people who tick those boxes and have similar interests.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

We have a wide range of properties for people with very high support needs. Those seeking Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) will be funded, though separately from the Supported Independent Living in their NDIS plan. It is shown as capital support.
